In April we sent in our information into Bremer County to get our building permit to put a front porch (or deck) on our house. This was the beginning of a headache. We had to apply for a special permit since we had existing concrete steps, we were supposed to replace them with concrete. I think not!
We had all our neighbors sign a letter from the country office regarding our plans and to let them know about the council meeting that would be held to discuss our plans.
Finally we got the okay to build!!!!
The boys were all ready to help daddy begin the demolition. First step was to remove the bushes from that side of the landscaping.
We eneded up moving the bushes to the side of the house and the boys were in charge of moving some of the dirt and filling in the holes up front.
Once Dusty began to break up the front steps we found out they were constructed of about everything but the kitchen sink. Concrete, red bricks, sand, large stones, and even a large pile of rusted nails.
Dusty worked so hard to bust up all those steps. We loaded it all up piece by piece into the dump truck. The first load Dusty took to the farm had to take a detour to get four new tires since he blew two of them on the way. Maybe we overloaded the truck a little bit. Like Dusty always tells me about the house and all the stuff I have in it....we tried to put 5 tons of stuff in a 1 ton truck.
Digging the footings with some help from our friend, Mike.
Four generations of Platte men working today. The boys Great Grandpa Merlyn, Grandpa Rod, daddy and Daniel in his chair being supervisor.
Tada!!!!! We have a front porch and I love it!
We are happy to have the porch done. Now if the weather would cool off a bit. This picture isn't out of focus, it is the lens on my camera fogging over from the humidity outside. Along with the porch we have a new inside door and new storm door.
THANK YOU DUSTY. LOVE YOU AND YOU DID A BEAUTIFUL JOB!
